The Long-Awaited and Much Anticipated

The long awaited remake by Jim Sheridan of Susan Bier's Brodres (2004) is scheduled for release in early December. I have not seen the original, and want to wait to compare the two, but a few of my own fill-in-the -blanks wonderings about the films:

We all have our roles to play in the family: the pretty one, the smart one, the favorite, the blacksheep, the one on the outside. What happens when a family member, or circumstances beyond anyone's control, changes their roles and upsets this order and established dynamic? When the family star comes back from the war in Afghanistan a changed person perhaps, and the family blacksheep wants to turn over a new leaf?
