That's Her?

I heard a lovely and evocative song entitled Sweet Darlin' recently by the band She & Him. The song is reminiscent of Leslie Gore, Dusty Springfield and other fabulous female singers of the 1960's. I loved it, and what I didn't realize at the time was that the musicians are M. Ward, and Zooey Dechanel on vocals, of films such as The Good Girl, where she played the charming and quirky cashier, Cheryl. Apparently she's a very talented musician too!
Also, listen to the political satire of Flobots' Handlebars, about power, corruption and responsibility and MGMT's commentary on wanting to grow up to be a rock star, Time to Pretend, both songs sounding like they are from the viewpoint of children in the sandbox, or who's the biggest bully in the global sandbox?

Haunting

I am just loving the stunning new song I Will Possess Your Heart from Death Cab for Cutie's forthcoming release Narrow Stairs, with its long intro of which Led Zeppelin would approve, dark creepiness, and cutting piano in haunting minor key. It has been described by one music critic as "one that could make them very famous but could very well also kill their careers". Gotta love that kind of creative risk taking. Enjoy the cover art.

Tilt-a-Whirl
"A further object is to provide amusement apparatus wherein the riders will be moved in general through an orbit and will unexpectedly swing, snap from side to side or rotate without in any way being able to figure what movement may next take place in the car."
- Herbert Sellner, inventor of the Tilt-a-Whirl
I've just discovered the band Hot Chip from the UK and this fun, amusement park ride of an electropop song, Ready for the Floor. Enjoy the ride! :)
